"Our visibility is our activism."

WCBD envisions a grassroots-led paradigm shift in the medical community. We want to enlist the help of medical students and physicians across the country in creating a network of support through mentorship, education, advocacy, and community engagement.

Visible Activism Microgrants

WCBD provides financial support to health professional students across the country who want to host events that support and develop the black medical community. Events should be guided by our program platforms: Education & Advocacy; Community Engagement; and Mentorship.

For examples of events hosted by and funded by WCBD in the past, check out the Microgrants in Action page.

If you're ready to get started on your own projects, apply for a microgrant at tiny.cc/wcbdgrantapp

  2. Microgrant applications will not be evaluated if the event takes place less than 21 calendar days from the date you submit your application.
  3. Grants are available for amounts of up to $500 per event, but final grant amounts are determined based on number of applications we are currently reviewing, as well as the reach and scope of the proposed event.
  4. WCBD funding may not go toward the purchase of alcohol or tobacco products.
  5. WCBD will be recognized as an official event sponsor on all signage, programs, and other advertisements and event publications. WCBD will provide appropriate graphics to be included on promotional materials.
  6. Event hosts agree to submit a brief (less than one page) report of the event, and/or participate in an interview about their event. Hosts will submit 5 or more pictures taken during the event. The write-up/interview and pictures will be featured on our website.
  7. Grant money will be disbursed either:
    1. as a direct payment to a vendor, after the final invoice is sent to us; for example, Sticky’s BBQ can email us an invoice for your catering order, and we will pay them directly. Or,
    2. as a reimbursement to the Event Contact for pre-approved costs within 4-5 business days after all relevant receipts are turned in to WCBD.
  8. If you're ready to get started on your own projects, apply for a microgrant at tiny.cc/wcbdgrantapp

What Our Supporters Are Saying

During the 2016 Howard University commencement address, President Barack Obama said to the graduates, "Be confident in your Blackness." WCBD is at the forefront of this movement in addition to promoting peak Black Excellence. I could not be more proud yet humbled by rocking this apparel and supporting the overall mission.
